I’ve been toying with this post for quite some time. I came across a blog months ago with an interesting post idea: What would your life’s playlist be if it were selected at random by your music player? Of course, the audiophile in me just LOVES the idea of this post—the thought of impressing you all with my insane audio collection, showing what great taste I have in music, etc. The superfreak in me is excited to have one of my favorite software programs tell me what it thinks it knows about me. And then I’m just glad to have an excuse to sit back with a glass of wine and chill to some music I love.
The question is this: If your life was a movie, what would its soundtrack be?
The method is this:
- Open your iTunes library (or whatever software you use for your music playlist)
- Put it on shuffle
- Press play
- For every question, type the song that’s playing
- When you go to a new question, press the next button
- Don’t lie and try to pretend you’re cool—you’re not—just type in the name of the song
So, let’s get on with it. Here is my life’s playlist:
Opening credits: The Heart That You Own, Dwight Yoakam
Waking up: Roxanne, The Police
First day of school: Close Your Eyes, The Chemical Brothers
Falling in Love: Love is Stronger Than Justice, Sting
Fight Song: Touch and Go, The Cars
Breaking Up: Boys Talk, Spektrum
Prom: Tryin’ to Throw Your Arms Around the World, U2
Life is Good: Lost, Michael Bublé
Mental Breakdown: Maybe Tomorrow is a Better Day, Carnival of Rust
Driving: Lost on the River, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris
Flashback: La Vie En Rose, Madeleine Peyroux
Getting Back Together: 3AM, Poets of the Fall
Wedding: Gett Off, Prince
Paying the Dues: Sunday Morning, Elizabeth Cook
The Night Before the War: Ain’t That Lonely Yet, Dwight Yoakam
Final Battle: Sound of Silence, Trinity FM
Moment of Triumph: I Adolize You, Ike and Tina Turner
Death Scene: San Diego Serenade, Tom Waits
Funeral Song: Leopard Skin, Pillbox Hat, Tab Benoit and Jimmy Thackery
End Credits: Crumbs From Your Table, U2
I was really hoping for a cool pre-perv Michael Jackson song, or some kind of truck rental song to commemorate the move to Florida, but I guess that’s a little too specific. 🙂
Which song or songs do you feel are the most appropriate in my life movie playlist? What changes would you make?

I LOVE this! I can’t wait to go home and try it. Question – If I land on it, I don’t have to count my kids music, right? I don’t think Hannah Montana is able to appropriately contribute to my life playlist through her “music”.
I think it’s perfectly acceptable to forward through ANY Hannah Montana song! Blech!
Well this ought to be a VERY interesting little bit of information! I have to admit to being totally ignorant of most of the songs on your list. Strange thought, considering where you were introduced to such a wide variety of music to begin with! Always thought I had a wide range, but I look like I’m locked in the basement compared to this list!
Will give it a try tho…sounds fun, if a possible a little disturbed, considering wht I might come up with!
